on a normal day, in an average cab, through a regular street, the driver leaned with the car to the right side of the road in a sudden, yet smooth move. she
noticed him, but acted as if she didn't. he was in his late sixties at least, hair all white, a golden watch, cheap brown plastic sunglasses with two golden stripes on each side. he almost stopped totally and yelled "where you go?" in a confident sharp clear note. she turned her head, leaned forward and read off a paper that she held "26th of July". he answered in the same voice "come on".
she was blond, big, well dressed, wearing thin metal framed glasses, holding a relatively big bag. got in. "shokran" with a full american accent.
"building 130" she read off the same paper. "نمرة ١٣٠ " i translated, "how can i say (building)" she asked.
as we started having a conversation about Cairo he just drove quietly without saying a word with a big smile on his face.
usually in a cab I'm in my grey mode, in which i act merely as a lubricant to the drivers monologue, feeling most alienated. as if I'm amusing an unwanted guest, or even justifying my presence in his car. my conversation with the Canadian teacher at the back seat had very little phrases and lots of recognition sighs and "aahh's".
where she lived, and how far is it from work. how was she treated by cairo's streets today.we even discussed how sharing a cb is a common thing around here.
slowly over a minute or two he was the awkward alien smiling through a conversation he didn't completely understand about our city. he contributed a few words such as "crowded!", "how you take metro", and "ولية لذيذة،...إجتماعية"

post parking paranoia
i don't know what made me feel that way immediately, this rush of empowering anger, which is usually mixed with fear of that power. i was still trying to weight the situation.am i just raging over nothing. maybe it was the sound created by the impact of water on my car's roof that got me? after i just parked it calmly and performed all the post parking checking at 3:00 am.
why would anyone do that? did he/she mean to pour this water on my car specifically? did i park where i shouldn't have? or was it just some one who was sweeping at 3:00 am and is accustomed to pour all the sweeping water out of the window after that.for anything is a common possibility where i live.
maybe it's only how i think of that car!
i consider it a mobile armor that takes me through the vicious, viscous and hectic streets of cairo so well protected and in the most comfortable way possible, so i just got furious at the sight of it getting splashed with loads of dirty water after a long day of selfless service it has given me. i felt like cleaning her up immediately, or even insulting whoever did that out loud to get her back some of her lost dignity...as the water was running down the car's face in utter most humiliation, she just stood there then the light inside the car just went off just as it usually does, yet this time it made feel something!! i stood there staring at the facade of the building clueless not even one apartment had the lights on.
why would anyone do that?
the car is not harmed or efected in any way mechanically or physicaly, so after all i'm raging over nothing, but i'm still furious and did nothing.
